Unfortunately, the decision to stay was their downfall. The end of the mural depicted a sun going supernova, an event that likely wiped out every last one of their kind. You can't help but feel that, with all their advancement and how the event is depicted, that at least a few of them likely prepared for this apocalypse.

Eventually, you enter a particularly massive room, likely a hangar for larger ships given the context clues. A terminal sits in the middle of the room, fairly damaged, but you are able to extract information from it containing the blueprints for both a cruiser-sized vessel and the metallic bodies these ancient aliens graduated to!

As you explore deeper you start to understand what happened here. Long ago, this strange race lived right here in the Nexus, holding complete dominion over this solar system for eons. You realize just how ancient these murals must be, since there are absolutely no mentions of Slugs, Sylvans, or even other aliens to begin with!

The story seems to imply that the aliens didn't value power or currency the same way almost all people do in the present day, instead solely focusing on bettering themselves and their technology. They even decided to confine themselves to this very system, seeing as how they had transcended mortality and therefore had no need to hunt down resources.

You land in a clearing close to one of the ruins and start looking for a way in. Luckily, the door to the only seemingly mostly intact building was cracked open, allowing your crew to slip in and start exploring the ruins from the inside. While heavily faded and damaged, the art on the walls is still a sight to behold, showing what seems to be strange aliens that don't match any entry in the Federation's database.
