The two Engi whisper to each other before deciding you won't be a threat to them. "We were sent [by] the Harmony to calibrate a haywire Federation defense system in the adjacent sector. However, once we became d-d-d-disconnected from the Harmony... we decided we do not: wish to return."

The other Engi nods. "We were told that refuge for all lifeforms could be found in Orchid territory. On our w-w-way there... we got lost. This, I do not believe, is the -correct- sector. Maybe you can assist?"

Although intrigued by the blob, you don't have time to go recruiting every mysterious and possibly sentient creature you come across. On your way back you inform the Vampweeds they should look into finding out the origins of the creature in case it's important for something.

Alkali is one step ahead of you. As you turn to him, he is using his communicator. "No time to talk. Send thhhe entire garrison as well as a scientist into Ivar's party hall and rescue him." You hear a brief protest, but Alkali interrupts. "Thhhhe research and embassy can go undefended for an hour or so. Thhhhis is a direct order." Moments later, an entire garrison of Shell troops swoop in around the flaming building. They immediately start coordinating the effort to put out the fire and begin rescuing the occupants. Eventually, a Shell soldier comes out of the building, with a small group of Vampweeds behind him. Among the survivors is Ivar, leaning against his spear as a walking stick.
